Guru Gita: English Classes

~~OM~~

Guru Gita

For every desire which an individual pursues, there is someone to demonstrate the means to its attainment. In Samskrt this is called a Guru. Every time an individual becomes inspired to take a new course of action, the example who conveyed that inspiration is a Guru. Gurus are examples which instruct, inspire, somehow cause us to change the objectives we pursue and/or the paths to their attainment. The word has been efficiently absorbed into the English language, according to its ever expanding nature, and now it is common to hear of Technology Gurus and Wall Street Gurus, all manner of specialization, even the lead carpenter on a construction crew may be referred to as the Guru by his apprentices. However, in Sanskrit literature the position of the Guru was regarded with considerably greater respect.

The ancient rsis actually maintained limited desires, primarily three: dharma, to attain an ideal of perfection; artha, to procure that amount of material necessary to attain that ideal; kama, to become free from all desires. The perfection of these three is called moksa, liberation, otherwise known as self-realization. For beings of such limited desires, the Guru is the example which inspires and instructs in the course of union with God. It is in accordance with this ideal of perfection that the Guru Gita calls the Guru "Supreme Divinity". He manifests the goal. He demonstrates the path. He illuminates the darkness, and thereby he becomes the purest reflection of one's highest aspiration.

To hear these classes below you should have the quicktime player.
