Sharanagata Mantra: October 1-15

Swamiji on the Worship of Mother Lalita

The written word cannot describe the tone of sound. Some things can only be learned from watching and listening toa qualified Guru. We need to hear and see, and only then can we inculcate into our own lives the tones of the Divine Mother. How can we describe Her being? After generations of reflection, the Vedic Rsis could only say "Neti, Neti"; She is not this and She is not that." How does one describe the sounds of the eternal Divine Mother? The tinkling of Her anklets, the generous sighing of Her compassion, the sincerity in a voice choked with emotion, raised in a pitch, calling upon divinity with both joy and respect.

Call upon the Divine Mother, sing Her names, narrate the tales of Her saints, and become inspired to greater achievement. She is our Beautiful, Playful, Beloved Mother. She grants the fruit of all karma. Worship Her with all your heart.

From Swamiji's Introduction to the Lalita Trishati, p 211 of Shree Maa: The Guru and the Goddess

  • Small cloth or other ID-Bag to contain Passport, Credit Card, & Cash to be worn under your clothes while out in public places.
  • Mosquito Repellant, Folding Umbrella, and Sunglasses. Mosq. net get in India.

For women: sarees, two-piece Punjabi dress outfits, or long skirts with modest blouses are OK. For men: Punjabi-style pants & shirt, kurtas, lungies are most comfortable.
  • Pack for minimum use of electronic gadgets, and plan for backup options as 1-2 power-cuts per day, lasting 1/2-1 hour are normal in both Varanasi and Kolkata.
  • Some people find that carrying Nutrition/Protein Bars and moistened towelette come in handy while traveling here.
  • If you’re traveling and sleeping in slim-budget accommodations, bring your own bedsheets. 1st, 2ND A/C, and 3rd A/C Class trains provide sheets etc.
  • Some shopping time for clothes and other items is available in the schedule.
  • Keep your luggage within the required weight-limits of the Airline, and pack your carry-on bag or laptop bag with the bare- minimum amount of items, to REDUCE the amount of your time in the Security-Check and Customs lines.
  • Pack the puja books indicated on website: Chandi Path, Sundar Kand, Annapurna Sahashranam, Shiva Puja & Advanced Yagnya, Kali Puja, & Rudrashtadhyayi.

Sharanagata Mantra: September 16-30

~~OM~~

Sri Ramakrishna on how to find God

Devotee: How do you get to meet the owner of the company?

Ramakrishna: If you just say God is "that" and just go sit down and do nothing, then you're not going to get there. You have to go with great vigor and great effort. Go to a quiet place and pray to Him, saying with great sincerity and longing in your heart, "Reveal yourself to me."

You run after your attachments and desires with great fervour, but for once be a little bit crazy for God. Some people may say that such-and-such a person has become crazy for God. Good! Let them. Leave all things and just call on God.
